Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy conducted an on-site inspection of the Amberpet Flyover, walking its length from Golnaka Church to Vani Photo Studio. He gathered detailed updates from officials representing Roads & Buildings (R&B), National Highways (RO), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Water Works, Electricity, and Revenue Departments.

During a press briefing, minister Reddy highlighted the project’s history and current challenges:

Historical Context:

He recalled that during N.T. Rama Rao’s tenure, the Chaderghat-Warangal national highway was widened, but the Amberpet section was excluded due to adjacent cemeteries.

As both an MLA and MP for Amberpet, he initiated the flyover project, securing immediate approval and funding from Prime Minister.

Current Delays:

Reddy emphasised that land acquisition, a state government responsibility, is the primary obstacle.

He criticised both the previous BRS and current Congress governments for delays in acquiring land at five remaining locations.

He cited a specific instance where land was not handed over despite a Rs 2.51 crore payment.

He reminded that he sent letters to both KCR, and Revanth reddy, regarding the land aquisition.

Project Advancement:

He recently convened a high-level meeting, instructing officials to prioritise the construction of a quality road beneath the flyover, along with landscaping and beautification.

He outlined a phased approach: first, opening the flyover to divert traffic, followed by road construction and beautification below.

He stated that Rs 338 crore has already been invested in the project.

Timeline and Benefits:

Minister Reddy announced that traffic will be allowed on the flyover starting this Maha Shivaratri, providing immediate relief to commuters.

Construction of the road beneath the flyover, and beautification, will commence after the flyover opens.

He reiterated that timely land handover by the state government is crucial for the project’s swift completion.
