See the ‘Taxi’ cast reunite to honor Danny DeVito more than 40 years after the show signed off
Did someone call for a “Taxi” reunion?
Several stars of the critically acclaimed sitcom turned out to support cast member Danny DeVito when he received the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s celebration at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City on March 10.
Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, Judd Hirsch, Carol Kane and Christopher Lloyd were all on hand for the event. Andy Kaufman, who famously played Latka on the show, died in 1984, while Jeff Conaway, who portrayed Bobby, died in 2011.
Former “Saturday Night Live” star Rachel Dratch was in attendance and posted a photo of Danza, Henner, Hirsch, Kane and Lloyd on Instagram.
“Pictured are some of the friendliest celebs I ever did meet,” she wrote, in part.
“Taxi” reunions are not altogether rare.
In May 2023, Danza, Lloyd, Hirsch and Kane went out to eat together in New York, with Danza and Lloyd sharing photos on Instagram.
“Love this crew of old friends so much!” Danza captioned his post, while also using the hashtags #OldFriends and #Taxi.
“What the hell is going on here?” Lloyd wrote alongside his photos, while he also used the #taxi hashtag.
In July 2023, DeVito, Danza and Kane saw DeVito’s wife, Rhea Perlman, who had a recurring role on “Taxi,” perform on opening night of the play “Let’s Call Her Patty” at Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theater in New York City.
The cast remains very close.
“The fact is that we have kept each other’s company in a close and loving way for all these years since ‘Taxi,’” Kane told People in August 2024.
“During COVID, we were even luckier because Zoom became this thing so that no matter where we were in the world, we could have and did have regular Zoom meetings,” she added.
“Taxi,” about the lives of cabbies for New York City’s Sunshine Cab Company, aired for five seasons from 1978 until 1983. It won 18 Emmy Awards, including three for outstanding comedy series and individual acting ones for DeVito, Kane, Lloyd and Hirsch.
Danza has also spoken about his support for a “Taxi” reboot.
“The 40th anniversary was recently, and it was so gratifying to be number one on the call sheet 40 years later,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. “When I think about ‘Taxi’ and how integral it was to my life and who I am, it’s almost like a temple. It was so great to work there. I would love to see it.”
